The best Prime Day Lego deals cut up to 30 percent off our favorite sets

Most of the Amazon Prime Day deals we cover here at Engadget are in the realm of tech, but there are some others that we just can’t resist telling you about — like Prime Day Lego deals. The sale includes up to 30 percent off Lego sets. For one thing, you’ll be able to snap up a Star Wars Luke Skywalker’s X-Wing Fighter set for $35. It usually costs $50.

This Lego kit, which is recommended for builders aged nine and above, has 474 pieces so it should keep you and/or (pun not intended) your kids busy for a while. The X-Wing has a retractable landing gear and a pair of spring-loaded shooters. You can convert the wings to attack position with the press of a button. The kit comes with Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and General Dodonna minifigures that you can place in the cockpit, while R2-D2 has his very own spot on board.

Marvel fans may be interested in picking up an Iron Man Nano Gauntlet that’s kitted out with the Infinity Stones. This set usually costs $69, but it’s on sale for $49. This 765-piece kit is geared toward adult builders. It comes with a stand and descriptive tablet, so the idea is to keep this on display, perhaps in your office, living room or den. The gauntlet also has jointed fingers, so you can position them as you like (perhaps with the middle one raised in the direction of a completed Thanos build).

Last but not least, there’s a Lego kit aimed at Minecraft enthusiasts that’s on sale. The Ruined Portal set, which is designed for builders aged eight and older, includes larger pieces that should be easier for smaller hands to get to grips with. It features Minecraft stalwart Steve, along with a baby sheep, baby hoglin and a wither skeleton. The set usually costs $30, but it’s on sale for $21.

That’s not all though, folks. There are many other Lego Prime Day deals for you to check out.

The Morning After: The best Amazon Prime Day deals so far

Amazon’s retail phenomenon is back and everywhere. Prime Day is here to offer deals on stuff you might want (and even more deals on stuff you don’t), and so far this year, discounts are pretty substantial on big-ticket items.

While a lot of the Kindle deals aren’t super compelling, the base Kindle, our best budget ereader, is now $85, if you’ve somehow resisted ereaders till now. It’s also a good year to upgrade your headphones. Sony’s best noise-canceling headphones, the WH-1000XM5, are discounted to under $300, while the AirPods Max are now $395. If you’ve been waiting on wireless buds, the AirPods Pro are now just $169 — a $80 discount.

And we say “so far,” because we wrote this at 7AM — and expect more details to surface as we dig deeper. Keep an eye on Engadget for all the best Prime Day deals.

Elon Musk confirmed on Monday that Tesla’s robotaxi event scheduled for August has been delayed until October. The CEO replied on X (the former Twitter, which he owns) to a user’s post that he “requested what I think is an important design change to the front, and extra time allows us to show off a few other things.” This seems to echo what Bloomberg reported last week: delaying the event would give Tesla more time to build additional prototypes. The initial teaser for the company’s robotaxi came on the same day Reuters reported Tesla was pulling the plug on a planned $25,000 budget model.

This Prime Day deal brings the Essential Roomba robot vacuum and mop down to its lowest price yet

The Roomba Combo Essential was already pretty budget-friendly to begin with, but you can now get the 2-in-1 robot vacuum and mop for $85 less than its retail price of $275 in a Prime Day deal. The robot vacuum is currently on sale for $190 as part of this year’s Amazon Prime Day festivities, and it’s a great discount — as well as a record low — for a model that was released a mere three months ago.

When iRobot announced the Roomba Combo Essential, it said the vacuum-mop hybrid outperforms the Roomba 600 Series and has 20 times more suction power. This model is 25 percent better at picking up dirt from hard floors than the Roomba 600 Series, iRobot said, and it has a longer battery life. Its smart navigation system can clean your house in rows — for up 120 minutes — and its app will let you set cleaning schedules, so the Roomba can do its job even if you’re not home.

The robot can even return to its charging station by itself when its battery runs low, so you don’t have to worry about having to plug it in when you come home. When you are home, you can start a cleaning session anytime either by tapping the Clean button in the iRobot Home app or issuing a voice command via Alexa, Siri or Google Assistant.

If you don’t really need a mop and just want a regular robot vacuum, you can get the Roomba Vac Essential Robot Vacuum instead. It has the same features as the Combo Essential and will only set you back $160, which is the lowest price yet for a device that usually goes for $250.

This Prime Day deal on Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones will save you over $100

The well-reviewed Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones have dropped to $298 for Amazon Prime Day. This is more than $100 off and close to a record low. In other words, this Sony Prime Day deal is about as good as you’re gonna get for some of the best wireless headphones out there.

These over-ear headphones have all the bells and whistles you could ask for, including a fantastic noise cancellation system, a new audio processor, multipoint connections, touch controls, voice controls and more. There’s a reason why these cans topped our list of the best wireless Bluetooth headphones.

First of all, these headphones simply sound great, thanks to redesigned audio drivers. They are also comfortable to wear for long periods of time, with soft cushions on the exterior. The ANC is top notch and the battery will last around 30 hours before requiring a charge. The call quality is also on point.

We appreciated the touch controls and the option to use voice commands for certain actions. The algorithm will automatically pause playback when you start talking, which is a nice touch. So what’s the downside? We dinged it for the high price, but this sale seems to have alleviated that complaint. Otherwise, these are just some dang good headphones.

Prime Day deals on headphones and earbuds doesn’t stop with these. The WF-1000XM5 wireless earbuds are also available at a discount. They now cost $228, which is more than $70 off and is a new record low for the set.

Prime Day robot vacuum deals include this Shark AI Ultra machine for half off

The only thing better than a robot that vacuums for you is one that empties its own dust tray, too. The popular Shark AI Ultra robovac, which is normally a hard-to-swallow $600, is half off for Prime Day, bringing the cost down to just $295. You can control this vacuum with voice commands — it supports both Amazon’s Alexa and Google Assistant — and it uses Matrix Clean Navigation to make sure it hits every spot in your home.

This Shark AI Ultra is a version of one of our favorite robot vacuums, and comes with a bagless, self-emptying base that holds up to 60 days’ worth of dirt and debris. It’s made to tackle even the daily accumulation of pet hair, with powerful suction and a self-cleaning brushroll that has an anti-hair wrap to prevent tangling. It can be used on carpets and hardwood floors.

The vacuum is Wi-Fi connected and pairs with an app so you can schedule cleanings or run it when you aren’t home. It’s equipped with 360-degree LiDAR vision to make a precise map of each room, and boasts object avoidance so it doesn’t get tripped up on things that have been left on the floor. Once the vacuum is done with the job — or if its bin fills up mid-clean — it’ll return to the bin to empty its tray.

The best Prime Day deals on Amazon’s Kindle ereaders

Amazon is known for its discounts, so it’s odd that its own Kindle ereaders don’t go on sale all that often. Prime Day events are one notable exception, and this year is no different. Thanks to the sale, nearly every model of Kindle is seeing a price drop, and we’ve collected them all right here as part of our coverage of the best Prime Day deals. The basic Kindle is our recommendation for a solid budget ereader and our reviewer called the Kindle Paperwhite Signature the “best ereader. Period.” If you’ve been waiting for a sale to grab your new ereader, this is the time.

As with all Engadget tech deals coverage, we only highlight discounts on gear we’ve tested or have otherwise used and know to be worthy of your money. We cross-checked our guides and reviews with the Prime Day deals Amazon has put forth to come up with what you see here. And we’ll update these deals roundups throughout the two days of Amazon’s Prime Day sale.

Amazon Prime Day deals include the Sonos Ray soundbar for $219

Amazon Prime Day 2024 is a great opportunity to beef up your home theater system and avoid relying solely on your TV’s (probably paltry) built-in speakers. Sonos makes some of the best smart speakers around and several of them are on sale during the event. For instance, the Sonos Ray soundbar has dropped to $219, which is 22 percent off the regular price of $279.

The Sonos Ray is one of our top picks for the best midrange soundbar alongside its beefier sibling, the Beam. We gave it a score of 82 in our review.

The Ray is the company’s most affordable soundbar to date, a fact that’s aided by the current sale, but it’s worth noting that similarly priced options on the market come with a subwoofer. That said, the Ray is somewhat smaller in size than many other soundbars. It’s a good way to go if you have a smaller TV or a compact living space even if it won’t deliver as immersive audio as larger models.

Like other Sonos speakers, the Ray is a cinch to set up. It delivers strong music and TV audio performance, while the bass is impressive for a soundbar of this size. Overall, the Ray is a good, budget-friendly entry point into the Sonos ecosystem.

Prime Day deals bring the Kindle down to $85

It’s Amazon Prime Day, which means you can grab a bunch of its devices at a discount, including the basic Kindle e-reader released in 2022. The device is currently on sale for $85, which is $15 less than retail for what we consider as one of the best e-readers of 2024, even though it was launched two years ago. The 2022 Kindle closed the gap between Amazon’s more premium Paperwhites and its entry-level models, giving the more affordable options features only previously found in their pricier peers.

The 2022 Kindle has a 300 ppi display, which gives it a resolution that’s far better than its predecessors’ (167 ppi) and is comparable to some Paperwhite models’. Amazon also doubled its onboard storage from 8GGB to 16GB, allowing you to download and keep more books on the device. It replaces the previous models’ outdated charging ports with USB-C, as well. so you can simply use your smartphone’s charger to plug it in.

While the basic Kindle doesn’t quite feel as luxurious as the more premium models of the e-reader, it does its job well. Page turns are quick on the device, which lets you set the font, size and margins. If you want to, you can save different settings as a “theme” so you can quickly switch the format of your books, say if you want to read with larger fonts when your eyes are feeling especially tired.

If you’d still rather get the more premium models, though, you can grab the latest Kindle Paperwhite for $135. Meanwhile, the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition that comes with a 6.8-inch display and 32GB in storage is $180 for Prime Day.

Prime Day deals slash up to $250 off Samsung Galaxy S24 smartphones

If you’re shopping for a new smartphone this Amazon Prime Day, it’ll be hard to beat these deals for the trio of flagships in the Samsung Galaxy S24 series. Prime Day deals have brought all-time-low prices to the Galaxy S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra — they’re all on sale for up to $250 off for Prime Day.

The powerhouse of the trio, the Galaxy S24 Ultra, is available for a record low of $1,200 (a $100 discount). Engadget’s pick for the best premium Android phone, the S24 Ultra has the best display available on a phone today: a 6.8-inch color-rich AMOLED screen with razor-sharp QHD+ resolution. In addition, this year’s model takes a page from Apple’s book by switching from an aluminum to a titanium frame, and its camera has a 5x optical zoom. It even includes an S-Pen (stylus) for more precise and versatile input.

Perhaps more intriguing than traditional phone specs is the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s suite of AI tools. The phone’s Galaxy AI features include proofreading texts, editing images, transcribing recordings and more.

The Galaxy S24 ($600, down from $800) and Galaxy S24+ ($750 from its usual $1,000) are also heavily discounted for Prime Day. Although not quite super-premium like the Ultra, these are still flagship-quality phones with the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. In addition, they carry over much of what already worked in the S23 series, including similar camera hardware and battery life.

The standard S24 models also include Samsung’s Galaxy AI suite. You can run some generative AI tools locally, and there’s an additional option to set them to never leave for phone, which is handy for privacy. Features include live translation for voice calls, a live interpreter for in-person conversations, note assist for summaries and formatting, writing assist from the keyboard and image editing.
